Averitt Partnering with Minority Business Enterprise to Broaden Capabilities

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (December 1, 2005) – Averitt Express has announced a partnership with Spirit Logistics, a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), to provide a wider range of transportation and logistics services to its customers.

Through the partnership, Averitt and Spirit will collaborate with the goal of ensuring shippers have broader access to available equipment and multiple transportation options in selected geographical lanes, while achieving supplier diversity initiatives.

According to Phil Pierce, Averitt's executive vice president of sales and marketing, the partnership with Spirit, a provider of air, ground and local cartage services across the U.S., is designed to target shippers who have broad transportation needs, including those with specific supplier diversity goals.

"We recognize that our customers find value in providers that can offer a wide range of transportation options," said Pierce. "Our partnership with Spirit Logistics will help us provide our customers with outstanding transportation and logistics value, as well as help them meet their supplier diversity goals."

Spirit Logistics is led by several former members of Dell Computer's logistics management team, a staff with almost a century of transportation and logistics knowledge.

Spirit's board chairman, Roy Perry, was vice president of the Dell Tennessee campus and led the team in its 62-day start-up of the Lebanon production facility. Perry's leadership influence and application of industry best practices have also proven successful at Allied Signal, IBM, and StorageTek where he served as corporate vice-president of global supply chain management and information technology. His StorageTek Puerto Rico Operations won Industry Week’s Top Plants in North America Award for 2005.

Felice McCoy, Spirit's founding president and CEO, previously served as logistics operations manager for Dell. McCoy's broad knowledge of local carrier management, outbound shipping networks and supply chain management enabled her to facilitate the flawless execution of logistics startups for two Dell Nashville manufacturing facilities.

Spirit's Vice President of Sales Greg Tice was a charter member of Dell's logistics management team and helped develop and implement its worldwide logistics organization.

Perry says the partnership will be beneficial for each company's customer base.

"We are very excited to work with Averitt Express, a company with a proven track record of premium customer service. The collaboration of two Tennessee-based transportation providers is not only good for the Tennessee economy but will also prove to be a force in the marketplace," said Perry.

Spirit Logistics is certified as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE). An MBE is a for-profit enterprise, regardless of size, physically located in the United States or its trust territories, which is owned, operated and controlled by minority group members. Minority group members are U.S. citizens who are African-American, Hispanic American, Native American, Asian-Pacific American and Asian-Indian American.
