 COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 18, 2011) – Averitt Express continues to expand the flatbed operation it launched in early 2009. At that time, Averitt’s flatbed presence existed only in eight key markets, including Birmingham, Ala.; Atlanta, Ga.; Cincinnati, Ohio; Louisville, Ky.; and Nashville, Tenn. During the past 22 months, however, growing customer demand has spurred the transportation and supply chain management provider to quickly double its flatbed presence, resulting in a current total of 16 markets. Some of Averitt’s newest flatbed markets include Decatur, Ala.; Bowling Green and Lexington, Ky.; Chattanooga and Knoxville, Tenn.; and Tupelo, Miss. Averitt also provides dedicated flatbed service to one of its customers in Indianapolis, Ind., and Columbus and Springfield, Ohio. According to Randy Hammontree, Averitt’s director of flatbed services, what began as a 12-flatbed trailer operation has multiplied into a current fleet of more than 50 drivers and 70 flatbeds, with plans to purchase additional trailers and bring on more drivers as business levels continue to increase into the second quarter of 2011. “We couldn’t be happier with the success of our flatbed service thus far, and we’re poised for even more growth in the near future,” said Hammontree. “We’re proud to offer our customers another transportation product with the same quality they’ve come to expect from Averitt.” As a result of the expansion, Averitt says it is currently hiring experienced regional and dedicated flatbed drivers in several locations throughout its network.
