A-RATE Rating System Help - Discounting
There are several discounting methods available in A-RATE:
ZIP Specific - discounts may be set for a particular Region on a ZIP code basis. This discount type may be used in conjunction with any other discounting type (i.e. Single, Multiple or Discount prompt). ZIP Specific discounts will take precedence over any other applicable discount.
Single - one discount for all shipments, varying by Direct or USA shipments.
Multiple - discounts that vary by the weight of the shipment, also for Direct or USA shipments.
Custom - individualized discount sets for any purpose. Create a set of discounts and assign it an identifier, such as an account number, a terminal name or code, a state name or abbreviation, or anything else that identifies a unique discounting purpose.
Prompt - After you enter your zip code pair, type in a Discount percentage to apply to the current shipment.
1) Select Discounting from the menu bar.
2) At the Set Discounts menu item, press ENTER to turn Discounting ON. This line MUST be set ON for Discounting to function. (At any time, you can return to this menu item to turn Discounting OFF.) Generally, when you select a Discounting method, this field automatically sets itself ON.
3) Select a Discounting method. If you select Single Discounts or Multiple Discounts, complete the dialog boxes that appear by typing in discount percentages for Direct and Interline shipments. If you want to include a Minimum Charge Floor, an absolute minimum charge that is not subject to Discounting, type in the dollar amount in the MC FLOOR fields.
If you select Discount Prompt and MC Floor Prompt, prompts appear below the Destination Zip field. Type in Discount and MC Floor values for the current shipment. For subsequent shipments, you can accept the previous value or type in a new value.
If you select Custom Discounts, you must first type in the identifier for the discount set, along with a brief description of the discount scheme. Then the system displays another dialog box in which you can type your discount percentages. At the Rating Screen, you can then select an existing identifier at the Discount ID field to access a specific discount set.
If you select ZIP Specific Discounts, you may type in specific 3-digit ZIP code ranges or click on State Selection to select the specific state ZIP codes. You may enter MC, LTL, TL discounts and a MC Floor for each ZIP code range.
You may have separate discount levels for shipments within the United States and between the U.S. and Canada. If you have separate levels, you can use Custom Discounts to load these levels into your system and apply them to your shipments.
